Barn Conversion - Greenisland
This project was commissioned to provide a separate level access apartment accommodation within a barn attached to an existing dwelling in Greenisland.
Design
The brief required the creation of a self-contained one bedroom apartment, to extend over the two floors of the existing barn and adjacent storeroom. The area available was too small to provide the full accommodation required and therefore a two storey extension was proposed to the rear. This houses a new kitchen and en-suite bathroom adjacent to the existing barn butress. The entrance to the apartment is via a new semi-circular porch addition, with a glass balcony above, and a rising curved wall to enhance privacy from the rear of the site. A standing seam zinc roofed sun room extends off the living dining area to the rear. The entrance hall incorporates a glass lift to the first floor bedroom. The stairs feature a triangular form oriel window addition, to an existing opening, which is partially repeated in the windows to the main living area.
