Friday, 26th August 2011 - CIAT set to visit the "Titanic Belfast".
ADP's Eddie Weir has once again organised a fantastic CPD event for the NI members of the CIAT.
Scheduled for Wednesday 7th September, the site visit to “Titanic Belfast” promises to be one of the most exciting CPD events to date.
Opening in April 2012 to mark the centenary of Titanic’s maiden voyage, the £100m structure in the Titanic Quarter, east Belfast, will be the largest man-made tourist attraction in Northern Ireland’s history.
The most important component of the Titanic Quarter site, Titanic Belfast is located at the head of the slipways, where the Titanic was built.
The overall design of the building has been influenced by the shipbuilding heritage of Belfast. The building in its line and form incorporates elements of the Titanic bow, the White Star Line insignia and the gantries used to build the Titanic.
Up to 600 people will be employed at the peak of the construction phase which represents a major boost to Northern Ireland’s construction sector.
Six floors and nine interpretative and interactive galleries tell Titanic’s story from conception to construction and launch, to its maiden voyage and tragic loss.
The Titanic Belfast boasts an impressive 25,000sq ft entrance hall and a 60ft high wall covered in sheet metal panels similar in size to those used on Titanic’s hull that tourists will walk through.
Visitors will pass through the gates to join a ride that will take them on a tour of the shipyard as it was in 1911.
The ticketing desks duplicate wooden keel blocks similar to those on which Titanic’s massive 46,328 tonnes rested in the Thompson Dock.
Some of the technology used is so advanced it has been specifically adopted from complex 3D imaging tools more commonly found in the biotech industry.
Other facilities include arts/education facilities, gallery for exhibitions, performances and meetings, cafes, restaurants, shops, the Astor suite (Northern Ireland’s largest banqueting and conference facility) and a glass-fronted suite located on the building’s top floor will provide panoramic views across the city and Belfast Lough.
Tuesday, 23th August 2011 - Carrickfergus nursing home ready for site.
The Nursing Home at Carrickfergus is the third project undertaken by ADP for the Primecare Group, but this time is a standalone home on a brown-field site.
The proposed nursing home at Carrickfergus is due to commence on site from the 1st September 2011.
Monday, 13th June 2011 - CIAT region 15 (NI) committee elections.
The Northern Ireland regional committee of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists held their elections on the 8th June to select the new committee and regional officers.
Eddie Weir was delighted to be elected back on to the role of Continued Professional Development (CPD) Officer.
He has organised many great building visits and informative lectures and has stated that he has many more planed for the future, hinting at a potential visit to the new "titanic" building in Belfast.
ADPs Matthew Weir was also elected to serve on the regional committee as a student member. He said he was looking forward to contributing to the institute in his local area.

Tuesday, 22th March 2011 - CIAT visit Belfast's new lyric theatre prior to its grand opening.
In a CIAT CPD event organized by ADP's Eddie Weir, Northern Ireland members of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) were given the opportunity tour behind the scenes of one of Belfast’s most anticipated new projects, the Lyric Theater.
The CPD was highly oversubscribed and places filled up almost immediately.
The event was attended by members the CIAT along with members of ADP including; Eddie Weir, Matthew Weir, Barry Mullen and Colin Duffy.
LYRIC TRANSFORMS BELFAST SKYLINE WITH ITS THEATRE OF DREAMS
When the Lyric Theatre’s new home opens on the banks of the River Lagan in Belfast, it will be a landmark building, a source of great pride to the people of Northern Ireland, and a catalyst for real change in arts provision for artists and audiences alike.
This striking contemporary building is one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated cultural and architectural developments in Northern Ireland for decades. The architectural design has been developed to embody the functional, cultural and social aspirations of the project.
Work began on the new £18.1m theatre in March 2009 and the Lyric will re-open on 1 May with a gala performance of Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’. To date, 160,000 bricks have been used in the re-build, 510 tonnes of steel, with approximately 310 people employed working some 118,960 hours.
Built in a stunning blend of ‘Belfast’ brick, glass, steel, concrete and iroko timber, the new theatre will be alive and dramatic at all times. Spacious lobbies and bars overlooking the river, beautiful auditoria with an exciting artistic programme will make the Lyric a thriving social hub, creative learning space and a real attraction for visitors to the city.
Almost three times the size of the old theatre, the new building is 5026 m2 or 54,164 sq ft and has three distinct areas.
The 389 seat auditorium is the main performance area, providing an extra 90 seats in a single steep rake. The intimacy of the old theatre remains as the body of the audience is not broken by balconies or barriers ensuring actors and audience share the same space.
A second performance studio accommodates between 110 and 150 people, can be adapted to suit any performance style and will explore experimental work as well as reimagining classic plays and developing the skills of local artists.
The third space is a rehearsal room the same size as the main auditorium stage.
Other facilities include an Education Suite, Green Room, Dressing Rooms, Board Room, Back Stage facilities, Box Office, Café/Bar and River Terrace.

Eddie Weir Architectural Design Partnership is now registered with constructionline to provide a wide range of services.
Tuesday, 22th February 2011 - Eddie Weir features in the new CIAT films.
The CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists) have recently commissioned a set of educational films, which feature ADP's Eddie Weir.
The five films, narrated by Luke Roberts from BBC’s Holby City, include career information, information for domestic clients, and three case studies of members’ projects which cover residential, multi-use and conservation.

Wednesday, 2nd February 2011 - The Nursing home at Ballygomartin officially opened.
A new Priory nursing home unveiled at Ballygomartin, Whiterock.
Eddie Weir and Barry Mullen from ADP were present at the ceremony the celebrate the grand opening.
The home was officially opened by Norman Whiteside, the Belfast born footballer can be seen cutting the ribbon with piory staff in the photograph to the right.
Monday, 17th January 2011 - Dedication service for the new St. Columba's church, Whiterock.
ADP were present for the dedication service of the newly developed church and community hub.

Friday, 14th January 2011 - Go Ahead for new nursing home and church in Dunmurry.
Eddie Weir met with members of Lisburn council and the St Hildas church group Dunmurry to discuss the exciting project being built in the Dunmurry area.
The Following is an extract from the Ulster Star
"I have been assured there will be a local jobs fair run next Easter in order to ensure that local people, from Dunmurry and within the constituency of Lagan Valley, have every opportunity to apply. This will be run in conjunction with the local community groups and it is good to see that Prime Care does believe in working with local community groups and in ensuring that they employ locally.
"Prime care will provide a mini bus service for staff, which will pick them up to bring them to work and leave them home therefore limiting pressure on the car park which will be primarily for visitors and church members," he continued. "This I welcome as this was one of the concerns held by local residents' and myself. I am pleased that we have had this resolved with thanks to Prime Care."
Dunmurry Councillor, Margaret Tolerton, also welcomed the investment. "I believe this is a positive news story for the people of Dunmurry as it will create up to 170 jobs in both the local construction industry and health care sector," she said. "This home will provide a local home for local people in need for care. I think that this is good for potential clients and for the local community as it is imperative that we provide for the sick and vulnerable." The Primecare Group are fast becoming Northern Ireland's premier provider of quality nursing homes with no less than four new similar developments planned for 2011.
Building work on the development by the Primecare Group is expected to begin in the New Year.
